3D artist Raffael Kloten has unveiled a stunning Warhammer 40K-inspired animated tank, built entirely in Blender using the power of Geometry Nodes. Alongside the final render, he shared terrain tests and a detailed breakdown of his process.

Blender opens up endless possibilities for procedural modelling, and this Warhammer 40K-inspired tank project is a perfect example of that. The artist set out with an ambitious goal: to create a fully rigged tank system that could handle omnidirectional movement while maintaining realism and flexibility.

The solution came through a custom Geometry Nodes setup, carefully designed to handle the complex mechanics of tank tracks. This setup automatically calculates both the track and wheel rotation, ensuring that every track link remains evenly spaced. That means no unwanted deformations, no intersections—just smooth, precise movement.

To take it further, the system was paired with Shrink-wrap Object Constraints on the wheels. This clever addition allows the suspension to automatically adapt to any surface, whether flat ground or rough terrain. The result? A tank rig that not only looks authentic but is also animator-friendly, making it easy to drop into complex scenes without hours of manual adjustment.

This project highlights the power of procedural workflows in Blender, combining technical precision with artistic vision. It’s a great showcase of how far Geometry Nodes can go in bringing mechanical designs to life.
