Spider Rose & Nosey – Character Design Breakdown
These two characters, designed by Maria Panfilova for Love, Death + Robots (Blur Studio), are a masterclass in contrast and emotional storytelling.
"Spider Rose - one of the episodes I worked on for season 4 Love death & and robots as a character concept artist" by Maria Panfilova
"Pleasure to work with Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Jerome Denjean!" by Maria Panfilova

Spider Rose is a cybernetically enhanced survivor of alien war, her design revealing both inner strength and deep emotional scars. The angular implants, visible plating, and transparent armor hint at both vulnerability and resilience. Her facial structure is haunting — half-machine, half-mourning.
Nosey, by contrast, is a soft-bodied, genetically engineered mascot creature — built for empathy and connection. With wide eyes, feathered tufts, and childlike posture, he evolves emotionally through the story, eventually reflecting Rose’s own pain and love. His gentle presence becomes her tether to humanity.
Together, they embody a stark duality: steel and softness, trauma and healing. A visual story about loss, loyalty, and unexpected love — told in stunning detail, sculpted with purpose.
