Hybrid Smartwatch: Vintage Meets Futuristic Tech

Written by Kitai - Twitter/X
Michal Kalisz (known as Veezen3D) has unveiled a concept smartwatch on ArtStation that elegantly merges vintage chronograph styling with modern wearable tech. The design maintains mechanical aesthetics—like crowns, lugs, and brushed-steel surfaces—while concealing a digital display beneath a sleek metallic bezel.
Hard Surface Modelling Done Right!

Visually, the piece contrasts bold strap colours (such as lime-green and teal) with grayscale metal tones, enhancing its futuristic appeal wrapped in industrial realism. The textures and surface detailing evoke a hard-surface modelling approach, while the concept hints at user ergonomics and functional design.

"I like to experiment. I had that silly idea to make a design of a kinda fancy classic watch but with a digital screen that can be turned on for more features.

The design captures the tactile realism of a traditional chronograph watch—complete with crowns, brushed steel textures, and detailed strap materials—while cleverly integrating a hidden digital display beneath its metallic bezel.
Veezen3D skilled use of Blender’s Cycles renderer brings out rich lighting, realistic reflections, and surface details that elevate the concept from a simple model to a lifelike visualisation.
This project not only showcases the artistic vision but also highlights the capabilities of Blender and Cycles for creating high-quality industrial and product design renders—demonstrating that professional-level results can be achieved without expensive proprietary software.
